Programmatic Caution

It is necessary for the wise use of our congregations' energy to be very careful when entering into a new program or initiative. Especially the popular segmentation programs (5-this and 7-that), run a high risk of becoming mechanistic and missing much of the fruit that the programs can yield.

The primary prevention against a mechanical result is to maintain a focus on the fundamental purpose for improvement efforts: to become better at making disciples for Christ, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. There are some real and very important improvements that can result from many of these programs. It is up to leadership to be sure that the results culminate in growing God's Kingdom, not just doing a better job of one task, five somethings, or seven somethings else.
